Celebrating World Autism Awareness Day
2 April 2010
A team of autism experts at Dimensions has been travelling the country in the lead up to today's World Autism Awareness Day in a bid to raise awareness of autism.
Dimensions, the UK's largest specialist provider of support for people with autism, hosted a series of events to boost knowledge of the little understood condition. The events gave families the opportunity to find out more about the support available to them.
During the 'Autism: let's talk' events there were talks from autism and behaviour support specialists, the chance to get free advice and the opportunity to talk to other families.
"67million people across the globe are believed to be on the autism spectrum," said Lisa Hopkins, Director of Specialist Development at Dimensions. "That's one percent of the world population. Yet what autism means to individuals and families is not widely known. We wanted to turn this around by helping to positively raise awareness of autism and what specialist support is available to families."
The Dimensions events were organised between 22nd and 26th March. They were open to families as well as people who work with people with autism professionally.
