Selecting the 2019 Leaders

The 2019 Leaders’ List is being run in partnership with Learning Disability England and Dimensions; both organisations will have judges on the judging panel. We have designed the judging process to be as fair and impartial as possible.

Judging will take place in August/September 2019. It will be fair and impartial; each judge’s decision is final.

Entries will remain confidential throughout the judging period.

There will be 21 judges in total

  • Each of the 6 categories will have 3 judges. We are aiming for 2 of those judges to have a learning and/or autism
  • There will also be a judge to make decisions where there is a conflict of interest or a “tied” place
  • There will also be a judge for the Lifetime Achievement Award and a judge for the Young Persons Award

Entries will be shortlisted

  • Dimensions colleagues will shortlist the entries. This means they will read all entries and choose a selection to send to the judges
  • This shortlisting will be done “blind”. This means that they won’t be provided with any names or information that we believe could identify the person
  • It is at this stage some entries might be moved to a different category. This will only be done if it gives the entrant a better chance of success
  • The final shortlisted entries will be sent to the judges

Judges will rank the shortlists

  • There will be 3 judges for each category, they will rank the shortlisted story for their category
  • The judging will be done “blind” and if any judge feels like they know the entrant, they will be asked to tell Dimensions and the mediating judge will judge that entry
  • Judges will rank each entry against a list of criteria; this will give each entrant a score
  • The judges will send their scores to Dimensions

Choosing the Leaders

  • Dimensions will use the scores to determine 7 successful stories per category. These people will be the Learning Disability and Autism Leaders for 2019
  • If there are any tied places (people with the same score in the same category) the mediating judge will choose which story succeeds
  • Dimensions will send the eligible Leaders’ stories to the Lifetime Achievement Award and the Young Persons Award judges for their decisions
  • 2019’s Leaders will be notified in September. This is confidential and we will ask them not to tell anybody
  • Winners must consent to publication of their story, their photo, their name and other supporting content. If consent is not given, alternative entrants will be selected
  • Consent for publication will be asked from the winning entrants only, after judging is complete.
