There is a General Election on Thursday 4th July; not only that, there are over 2 million people with learning disabilities and/or autism in the UK with those of them over 18 having the right to vote. My Vote My Voice Ambassadors James Walker, Hannah Molloy and Ismail Kaji tell us why we shouldn’t give up our vote in 2024.
Are you autistic or do you have a learning disability? Make sure you use your vote this General Election. Register to vote by 11:59pm on 18 June 2024: https://www.gov.uk/register-to-vote
Don’t have ID? Apply for a voter authority certificate by 5pm on 26 June 2024: https://www.gov.uk/apply-for-photo-id-voter-authority-certificate
Want to know more about voting?
Our My Vote My Voice campaign, in partnership with United Response, Mencap and Ambitious about Autism, offers all the guidance and support needed, including easy reads and flyers on many aspects of the process.
In the upcoming weeks, more and more helpful resources will be added to the website. Already, we have shared an easy read quick guide to voting and easy read guidance about registering to vote, and on how to register to vote.
Sarah Walters, Campaigns Manager, said: “There are many other ways you, your teams, the people we support and their families can all get involved this coming election, as voting should be fun and empowering.
“Why not break out the bunting and have a garden party to help or help arrange Voter Registration parties? You could look at inviting your local candidates over for a cuppa and chat about what’s important to the people you support.”
