Supported Employment

Work means far more than money and productivity; it means self-esteem, confidence and social opportunities.

At Dimensions, we know from experience that with the right support, it is possible for almost anyone with learning disabilities to do a productive job.

Many hundreds of people – like Stuart and David – are supported with employment by Dimensions as a normal part of their support plans. More people are employed through innovative collaborations with private companies, such as our Inspired partnership.

Through our dedicated supported employment service in Somerset, which follows the British Association of Supported Employment’s best practice approach, we support people into employment who do not necessarily meet traditional criteria for ‘job readiness’ or ‘employability’.

People like production operative Mark and fireworks expert Steven who are supported into employment by Dimensions have real jobs, where they can fulfil their employment aspirations and achieve social and economic inclusion.

And Dimensions directly employs many people with learning disabilities and autism, and their families – our 50 experts by experience quality check our services and support interviewing and induction for new staff. We also employ learning disabled film makers, reception staff, administrators like Corey and spokespeople. Our 12 family experts champion the views and rights of family members.

And crucially, through raising self-esteem and social interaction, supported employment can often result in overall reductions to support costs.
