Explosive dream job for man with autism

Working with our Supported Employment team Steven secured a job creating explosives for film sets and setting up fire work displays.

After struggling to find work, Steven was disheartened and lacking confidence. But he is now a trainee technician at a local organisation, Event Horizon, who employed him when he impressed them at a work experience day.

More recently, he has worked on a film in London and completed an Explosives Health and Safety Training Course. Last year, he achieved another one of his dreams – to prepare and put on a public firework display.

Steven really enjoys bonfire night and was honoured to play such a crucial role. He has learnt and developed many skills since starting his employment and has really grown in confidence.

The Employment Support Team understand it’s important to give people with learning disabilities and autism the same opportunities as everyone else. They enable people to achieve goals, become more independent, meet new people and build their confidence.

Our Supported Employment team provides expert advice and job coaching for people with learning disabilities and autism to gain employment. We use various tools, including job coaching and job matching, and work directly with employers, supporting both them and the employee throughout the process.
