About the campaign
Dimensions My GP and Me campaign believes that with the right training, and by working together, we can change the shocking fact that people with learning disabilities die up to 29 years younger than the general population (hqip.uk), and often from preventable issues (EHRC).
We found that many autistic people and people with learning disabilities don’t feel like they are listened to by their doctor and two thirds don’t get the reasonable adjustments they need. Thankfully GPs want better too; almost all of those we asked said they would like more training on these issues.
#MyGPandMe is making primary care fair by training and supporting healthcare staff to improve how they treat patients and create a more inclusive and accessible environment for autistic people and people with learning disabilities.
To tackle this serious gap in accessible treatment and preventative healthcare we have developed free training and resources, lobbied policymakers and trained GP surgery staff.
Our research reports, training and tool-kits were all developed with:
- Healthcare professionals
- Support teams and family carers
- Autistic people, disabled people and people with learning disabilities
- Learning disability and autism sector professionals
Across our My GP and Me webpages you will find free training, resources and guidance for healthcare staff, support teams and carers. Most of our campaign webpages have an easy read version too so they’re accessible for everyone.
