A crucial victory for people with learning disabilities

Steve ScownAfter weeks of uncertainty around when people with learning disabilities will be offered a vaccine, today’s announcement by the government’s Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation is a crucial victory for people with learning disabilities, their families and carers across the country.

People with learning disabilities are at a much greater risk of dying from Covid-19 than the general population. Prioritising all those on the GP Learning Disability Register will mean peace of mind and a quicker return to normality for thousands of individuals and their families across the country, who have already experienced greater anxiety than most throughout this time.

Today’s news is a crucial step in ensuring we can protect many of those who have been forgotten about throughout the pandemic.
