Casting on for friendship

Lucy has been volunteering with Sue since June 2019 as a Volunteer Knitting Buddy.  Lucy was visiting Sue regularly on a Sunday pre-COVID and the two of them have created a lovely new friendship together.

Knitting buddies Lucy and Sue

When lockdown meant that Lucy was unable to visit the house, she continued to keep in touch with Sue by calling her regularly every Sunday for a chat.

They missed each other and were delighted to be able to meet face-to-face again in the garden over the summer. Together they started to knit blanket squares to create a beautiful blanket and pillows.

Lucy says: “I love spending time with Sue – it’s lovely to chat with her and craft together.  She takes a real interest in my family and tells me all about hers and some of her life experiences.

“I joined Dimensions volunteering to hopefully give companionship and friendship to someone who needed it, but I’ve ended up making a really good friend.  I am so thankful for that.”

Now that restrictions have lifted, Sue and Lucy are enjoying being back knitting together again – this time they are making a blanket and a pillow for one of Sue’s friends!
