Marathon fundraising success for volunteer Richard

Massive congratulations to our volunteer Richard who completed, the Brighton Marathon on 12th September 2021 in his efforts to raise funds for Out There! (part of Outreach 3Way, Dimensions UK)!

Dimensions volunteer Richard, who completed the Brighton Marathon

Out There! is a community based preventative service in West Sussex, which provides sports and leisure activities for people aged 16 and over, who have a learning disability or autism. Out There! is part of Outreach 3Way, Dimensions UK.

Richard raised over £750, smashing his original target of £500 – a tremendous achievement! He originally starting volunteering with Dimensions in the summer of 2019 at the Out There! West Sussex Gym and Swim group in Worthing, providing help and encouragement to a group of young adults with learning disabilities in their weekly exercise sessions.

Richard enjoyed these sessions so much that he offered to volunteer also at the sessions held in Burgess Hill. When the pandemic hit, the sessions were put on hold, but Richard kindly took on a virtual volunteering role with the Dimensions Staying in Touch club, which helps to keep people we support connected with each other.  In this role, Richard plays his cornet at the weekly online music club, which is very much enjoyed by the people we support who attend the sessions.

Richard says: “All of these activities have been extremely rewarding, seeing the enjoyment and sense of achievement that they bring to those involved.”

Richard is a very much valued volunteer and the Out There! team are truly thankful for his ongoing support.  Well done again and thank you Richard!
