Autism & Disability Referrals
We can begin supporting new autism and disability referrals as soon as your health or local authority defines your care plan and budget. This support can vary from a few hours a day for those with greater independence, to more complex arrangements for people requiring extra support.
Our person-centred approach
Our referral process allows us to create and implement person-centred support plans for people. We focus on enhancing opportunities and assisting those with distressed behaviours or who may not use spoken words to communicate.
Our tailored support responds to each person’s unique needs, promoting choice and control. Our team of expert support workers includes specialists who can address specific challenges, such as finding suitable accommodation.
Who we work with
Dimensions provides specialised support to people with learning disabilities, autistic people, distressed behaviours and other complex needs.
As one of the largest not-for-profit organisations in the UK, we centre our actions around the people we assist and their families, committed to helping them live fulfilling, independent lives. We welcome referrals from diverse backgrounds, including:
- Assessment and treatment units (ATUs)
- Long-stay hospitals
- Multiple and profound learning disabilities
- People with complex health conditions
- People with distressed behaviour
- People within the criminal justice system
- School or college leavers
- Transition from residential support
Our Referrals Team collaborates closely with health providers, managing the referral process and ensuring personalised plans have sustainable funding.
How our referral process works
Most referrals to us are made by local authorities. Each referral is treated with care, with our support workers putting the person at the centre of a tailored support plan.
How long does an autism referral take?
We understand that people who have been referred to Dimensions require support as soon as possible. It’s also our priority to offer the right type of support for your needs.
From the initial screening through to the delivery of your bespoke support plan and financial budget, we work to avoid any delay while communicating our progress to you at all times.
Complex referrals may take longer in the information gathering stage, because we may need to speak to more stakeholders including loved ones, caregivers and health professionals, but we are dedicated to achieving the best possible support plan for each person.
